The Manufactured Body Exhibition 2023 and 2024 Research Archive.
This five-room exhibition, a solo show, was installed and transformed a disused 15th-century building, The Ancient Priors. The exhibition was fully funded by the UK government's Levelling Up Funds, through Crawley Borough Council in association with Word Festival 2023. The exhibition launched the Crawleys Cultural Quarter programme and was submitted as my graduation exhibition/ final work towards my BA (Hons) in Fine Art.
Curated around my personal story, the exhibition questions how we have manufactured our bodies.
The exhibition features a diverse range of works, including drawings, paintings, photographs, body prints, installations, workshops, performance art, and documentation. It invited everyone to participate in self-acceptance and self-empowerment, exploring how society shapes our bodies and aims to inform the audience about the effects of societal views on body image. The exhibition encourages us to acknowledge the realities of our bodies, such as cellulite and loose skin, and challenges the stigma surrounding body size and measurements.
It asks questions about what our future bodies will look like and the affects of current social standards, politics, medicine, environmental impact, social media, and beauty standards, especially in relation to body weight.
2024
The 2024 Manufactured Body Research Archive, which was part of the MFA Archive at the Royal College of Art, presented my research in postcard format. It highlights the research involved in creating the final visual and written work.
